Ursula Schmidt-Laukamp studierte zunächste Violoncello bei Prof. Fritz Sommer an der Musikhochschule Lübeck. Bald entschloss sie sich, zusätzliche Blockflöte bei Prof. Eva Friedland in Lübeck zu studieren. Dieses Instrument führte sie schließlich an die Kölner Musikhochschule, wo sie bei Prof. Günther Höller studierte. Dort – wie auch an der Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf – ist sie jetzt Professorin für Blockflöte.

Auf Block- und Traversflöte konzertiert sie als Solistin aber auch als Spielerin in verschiedenen Barockensembles und Barockorchestern im In- und Ausland. Sie wirkte mit bei CD-, Rundfunk- und Fernsehproduktionen.

Als Autorin von Fachliteratur, sowie als Herausgeberin von Alter Musik hat sie sich einen Namen gemacht. Sie Initiatorin und Leiterin der Internationalen Blockflötentage Engelskirchen.

Ursula Schmidt-Laukamp studied the violoncello with Prof. Fritz Sommer at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. She then decided to study the recorder additionally with Prof.Eva Friedland. This instrument finally led her to the Musikhochschule Köln, where she studied with Prof. G. Höller. Since 1981 she leads a recorder class at the Musikhochschule Köln and was awarded Professor in 2003. Since 2000 she also teaches at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf. She worked as a soloist on the recorder and on the ‘Flauto traverso’ in various ensembles in Germany and abroad. As a recording artist, she participated in CD-/Radio- and TV-recordings.
She published books on recorder items and is well known for her editions of early music. In 1997 she initiated and organized a recorder festival: the Internationale Blockflöten Tage Engelskirchen.
